South Evia – Karystia

South Evia and the region of South Karystia is practically neighbouring Athens and the wider Attica region.

It is easily and quickly accessible from the capital city and the International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos'.

Transport time from Athens is approximately 2 hours and there are 3 options: coastal link from Rafina (Attica) to Marmari (Karystia), coastal link from Agia Marina Marathonas (Attica) to Styra (South Evia) or road link from Attica (and Athens) to South Evia via Chalkida.

From Athens Airport you can reach Rafina in 25 min either by taxi or by a regular bus link (KTEL Attikis) and take a ferry from Rafina to Marmari.

Mt Ochi dominates the region of Karystia and its hills stretch all the way to the sea. The mountain torrents carve the vast massif, creating plateaus, valleys, gorges and canyons and when they finally reach the coastline they form dentelated shores with small beaches, coves, headlands and cliffs.

The combination of the mountain and the sea offer ample opportunities for a wide range of activities, such as walking, trekking, cycling, horse-ridding, swimming, scuba-diving, fishing, wind surfing and sailing.

The visitors can visit the many monuments created by man or nature itself.

The gorges of Dimossari and Archaboli, the ancient chestnut forest, the valley of Rouklia, the cliffs of Lala, the cave of Agia Triada, the many water sources and ravines are some of them...

The different civilization that dominated the area over the years have left behind them the Dragonhouses, Castello Rosso, The Venetian castle of Bourtzi, the Roman quarries, the Byzantine churches, the bridges and the watermills.
