It is a provincial town which still preserves its authentic and unspoiled Greek character. Its many facilities, restaurants, taverns and cafes remain open throughout the year and not only in the summer months.
Karystos is a well-built town, with excellent town planning, beautiful neoclassical public buildings and squares, mansions as well as traditional houses. A picturesque harbour with its jetty and a promenade shaded by rows of mulberry trees will enchant the visitor who will be treated to the delicious delicacies offered by the many traditional cafes and ouzeries.
The local market offers a wide range of local produce - meat and cheese from the locally reared sheep and goats, fresh fish from the Cavodoro straits and the South Evia Gulf, vegetables from the plains and the mountain villages and herbs from the high slopes.
The bay of Karystos has many beaches with shallow, warm and safe waters for the whole family. Small rocky formations separate one sandy beach from another. Karystos is recommended for summer vacation and beach holidays.
Mt Ochi, the local mountain, is blessed with numerous water sources that form beautiful gorges and offer plentiful water for the irrigation of the surrounding farmland, the villages and the town of Karystos.
