The Karystion Hotel can be your starting point for various walking routes around the area. One of these routes is the walk from Kalyvia to Lala. It takes about 1h30 and it is shaded at the beginning of the route.
In Kalyvia, at the point where the roads from Kalyvia, Karystos and Lala meet, you find a water fountain. Follow the road up the hill to the village of Lala.
Go past the chapel of Agia Irini. A bit further down you come across a beautiful old house on your left. At that point leave the road and follow the path to the right alongside a stream. This part of the walk is shaded and cool.
Eventually you come to an old stone bridge. Cross over and follow the path uphill. At the top of the path turn left along the road. In the field on your left there is a beautiful old stone house. At the end of the path you will find a cobbled path which goes down the hill towards a Turkish fountain and an old watermill.
Turn back and follow the cobbled path until you get to a concrete road. Turn right and follow the road until you see a path on your left. Follow the path until you come to another concrete road.
Turn left and go up the steep hill to the church of Taxiarches, dedicated to the archangels Gabriel and Michael. This Byzantine church was built at the end of the 12th century.
After a visit to the church, follow the concrete road downhill. Go past the church of Agia Varvara and head towards Kalyvia. Turn right on the main road, go past the school and continue down the hill until you reach the water fountain from where you set off.
